At Mavericks, being open is one of our core values. It’s not just about transparency. It’s about how we work, learn, and grow together. As developers, this value guides the way we approach our work and our team culture. Here’s what it means in practice.

We’re Open to Feedback

Feedback is how we improve and we welcome it. At Mavericks, we make space for open conversations about our work. Whether it’s a teammate suggesting a cleaner way to write a function, or someone pointing out a potential issue early, we take feedback seriously and give it with care. We don’t see feedback as criticism. We see it as a collaboration. It’s a way to support each other and build trust. The more open we are to hearing different views, the better our code and teamwork become.

We’re Open to Learning

Technology changes fast, and we believe learning should never stop. At Mavericks, we’re encouraged to try new tools, explore different approaches, and ask questions. Even if they feel basic. There’s no ego in learning here. We learn from each other through pair programming, sharing articles, or doing sharing sessions. It’s all about growing together, not just individually. If someone figures out a better way to do something, we share it. Because when one of us learns, we all benefit.

We’re Open to Change

Not everything goes to plan and that’s okay. At Mavericks, we stay flexible. If a project’s direction shifts, or if we realise mid-way through that there’s a better approach, we adapt. We don’t cling to the “old way” just because it’s familiar. Being open to change means letting go of pride in favour of progress. We revisit our decisions when needed, and we’re not afraid to pivot if it leads to better outcomes for our clients or our team.

We’re Open in How We Communicate

Clear, honest communication is part of how we work every day. We share when we’re stuck. We ask for help. We explain our decisions so others have the context they need. This openness helps build psychological safety spaces where everyone feels comfortable speaking up. Whether it’s a Slack message, a daily stand-up, or a one-on-one chat, we try to keep things respectful, thoughtful, and real.

In Summary

At Mavericks, being open is how we build better code, stronger teams, and a culture where people can thrive. We listen, we learn and we adapt because great work happens when we’re open to it.
