Hello! I’m Insaaf, and welcome to a day in my life as a consultant at Mavericks Consulting.
One thing I realised soon after joining Mavericks is that every day is different. That’s exactly what keeps me motivated and excited to log in each morning. Every day brings a new challenge, a new problem to solve, and a new opportunity to learn—whether it’s diving deeper into automation frameworks, improving testing strategies, or collaborating with different teams.
This constant variety pushes me to grow not just as an engineer, but as a consultant who thinks beyond just “testing” and focuses on delivering real value.
Alright, let’s jump into a typical (but never predictable) day.
9:00 AM: Starting the Day
My day usually begins with checking Slack messages, emails, and team updates. This helps me understand what’s coming up and where I need to focus my energy.
That initial check-in often sets the tone for the rest of the day, whether it’s tackling a new challenge, supporting a teammate, or diving into something completely unfamiliar.
10:00 AM: Daily Stand-up & Team Sync
Time to sync with the team. Stand-ups are where we align on progress, blockers, and next steps.
What I enjoy most is how collaborative these sessions are. Everyone openly shares ideas, challenges, and solutions. It’s not just about reporting status, it’s about solving problems together.
10:30 AM: Solving Problems (and Creating New Ones… the Good Kind 😄)
This is where the real work begins. Depending on the day, I might be designing or improving automation frameworks, writing API or E2E tests, debugging tricky failures, or collaborating closely with developers and business stakeholders.
The challenges vary constantly, which is what keeps the work exciting. Some days involve solving complex technical issues, while others require strategic thinking to improve quality across the project.
That unpredictability is exactly what keeps me motivated.
1:00 PM: Lunch, Prayers & Reset
Lunch is an important reset point for me. Along with taking a proper break from work, I make sure to attend to my prayers during this time.
It’s a moment to pause, reflect, and recharge both mentally and personally before stepping into the second half of the day.
2:00 PM: Enabling Quality through Collaboration
Afternoons often centre around collaboration. This may involve QA discussions, reviewing test strategies with developers, or mentoring teammates on shift-left testing practices so quality is built in from the start rather than checked only at the end.
Seeing developers grow more confident in testing and take ownership of reliability is incredibly rewarding. It reinforces that QA is not just about finding bugs—it’s about building a culture of quality across the team.
I also spend time reviewing test results, refining automation, improving pipelines, and unblocking teammates where needed—balancing deep technical work with consultancy-style thinking that aligns speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
3:00 PM: QA Workshop & Knowledge Sharing
Some afternoons are dedicated to QA workshops or knowledge-sharing sessions. These include strengthening testing practices, introducing smarter automation approaches, and encouraging shift-left thinking so quality becomes a shared responsibility.
What makes these sessions meaningful is the interaction. Developers bring real challenges, ask thoughtful questions, and together we work toward simple, practical solutions that improve how we build and test software.
Moments like these remind me that my role extends beyond writing tests—it’s about enabling teams, shaping quality culture, and helping everyone deliver better software.
5:00 PM: When the Brain Freezes, Relieve Stress Mavericks Style 🍫🎮
Let’s be honest, there are moments when the brain just refuses to cooperate. That’s usually my cue to head to the pantry. A quick snack, a drink, or even a short game break helps reset my focus and get me back on track. It’s great to be in an environment where taking short mental breaks is encouraged and understood as part of staying productive.
5:30 PM: Wrapping Up
Late afternoons are usually about closing the loop and the day winds down. I review what I’ve accomplished, get the Pull Requests merged and plan next steps, and prepare to log off.
Even though the workday ends, the sense of progress and learning always sticks with me.
Final Thoughts
What makes Mavericks Consulting special for me is the culture, people, and constant growth. I’m continuously challenged, supported, and encouraged to step outside my comfort zone and that’s what keeps me motivated.
The days are never repetitive, the problems are never boring, and there’s always something new to learn. Add to that a supportive team, great snacks, and a few games when stress kicks in and you’ve got a workplace that truly makes you want to do your best work.
Here’s to many more exciting, challenging, and rewarding days as a Maverick 💙🚀
