A Day in My Life as a Yellow Bean

As a yellow bean in the Mission Control Team (MCT), I am now working on diversifying my skills and experience! From the rigour of our green bean training, I have developed a stronger foundation as an independent contributor. Hence, I can now venture beyond into other non-routine projects with more confidence. The challenge of a yellow bean is to maintain output quality and improve my efficiency. My goal is to be both self-managing and high-performing.
So what does this look like in a day?
9AM: Planning Out My Goals
At the start of every week, the first thing I do is my weekly planning. I review what I have achieved in the previous week and begin to plan out my goals for the current week. To do this, I make use of my performance management tracker (here’s a sneak peek of it!).

Based on the team’s and my own priorities, I decide which goals I would like to work on. Using these goals, I can now plan out what my game plan is to achieve them. This gives me greater visibility on what each day of the week is roughly going to look like and helps me stay organised and focused.
With the bigger picture of my weekly planning done, I now move on to my daily planning! As a yellow bean, I apply the same mindset and principles that got me through my green bean training. What’s different is that my tasks are now non-routine and I often have to go beyond task-oriented goals. This becomes a true test of my skills in defining my goals, milestones and standards.
10AM: Daily Standup
It’s time for our short daily sync up with the team! In this meeting, we discuss what has been done, our blockers, and what we’re planning to do next. In a fast-paced working environment, you never know when and what kind of changes might happen. These daily standups help to ensure that we are staying adaptable and tackling what’s of highest priority. It also gives us greater visibility of the team, making sure that everyone is up-to-date and actively working on completing our tasks.
10.20AM: Hiring Statistics Discussion
I’m off for a meeting to discuss our 2025 hiring statistics, which will be a company-wide showcase next week. With our hiring statistics, we take a look at the previous year’s statistics to see how our hiring pipeline is doing and how we can improve further. It’s important to consolidate these numbers and share these meaningful insights with the company. Explaining the implications of these metrics is also crucial to helping everyone co-own our overall strategic goals. Highlighting our successes and how our hiring has improved is also important to celebrate our wins and efforts so far.
1PM: On to Conquer the Rest of the Day
Time to lock in and get started on what I’ve set out to do! My two main tasks for today are to conduct training sessions for our green beans and to facilitate a Team Case Study (aka one of our interview stages for our HR/Management applicants).
As for the training session, thankfully I’ve already created a training plan that has also been validated. Having just started on my own journey as a trainer, it’s especially important to keep up the good habits of making sure your prep work is done. Now, I can head into my training session more confident that I can effectively train our green beans. These training sessions have also been pretty fun for me! I get the chance to use my own previous experiences as a green bean to formulate my training plans, which also helps me to confirm my past knowledge.
Time to move on to the Team Case Study. As always, it’s time to do our prep work for it first. Being a better facilitator for the Team Case study is another one of my goals that I’m working towards. And it’s a lot more challenging than I expected.
5PM: Consolidation Time
The end of the work day is nearing! Here at Mavericks, we strongly advocate for day on day growth, if not week on week. I like to do this by specially dedicating some time for myself for personal training, reflection, and improvement. For today, I will be reviewing my approach to my earlier tasks. I reflect upon the feedback I’ve received, in both what I did well and what I can do better, to plan out some actionables or a game plan to improve upon them (like a mini retrospective). During this time, I also pen down any concerns or thoughts I may have that I can address with my lovely coworkers.
I also review what I’ve done as a whole for the day, making sure that I’m all ready for the next day.
6PM: Time to Clock Off
It’s already time to go home! Time here at Mavericks always seems to fly by, but I always leave feeling accomplished and confident that I’ve grown in at least one aspect. See you next time 👋
