The next Maverick on our “Getting to know Our Mavericks” series is Julia, our HR consultant on our Hiring Team. Read on to learn more about Julia and her time at Mavericks thus far!
What is your role at Mavericks and what does it involve?
I am a HR consultant at Mavericks. I am involved in talent recruitment which includes sourcing for and speaking to candidates, liaising with our hiring platform partners. I also actively help out with HR administrative work such as the on and offboarding of new team members, assisting with relocation process arrangements and work permit applications, as well as organising internal and external company events, social media management among others.
What is a typical day like for you?
A typical day would include having our team standup to review what is to be done for the week as well as share our task updates. Depending on what I have on my plate, I might be speaking to candidates, managing some hiring platforms, or working on adhoc projects and tasks etc.
How has your experience at Mavericks been thus far?
My experience at Mavericks has been enriching and fruitful. There’s a great learning environment here at Mavericks and I have had the opportunity to dabble in a variety of tasks and projects, with lots of learning along the way.
What motivates you at work everyday?
Contributing meaningful and valuable work keeps me motivated. Having a great team with good and open communication is great as well!
What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
I prefer waiting for a whole drama series to be out and binge watching the different episodes rather than having to wait a whole week for the next episode on a weekly basis!
How has the process of coming into HR been like for you?
The process of coming into HR was really by chance for me. I learned about the opportunity from a friend and decided to give it a go as a side hustle while in the midst of my university studies. Coming into HR within the tech industry, there was a lot of learning to be done initially, from familiarizing myself with the best practices we look out for to gaining a better understanding of the techstack and hiring processes. It has been enjoyable.
What is your proudest moment / achievement at Mavericks thus far?
I would say the proudest achievement was with the fruitful Speed Interview events that we participated in partnership with our hiring platform partner based in Taiwan. As it was shifted to becoming a virtual event due to the Covid-19 situation, I was glad that everything went smoothly. We managed to speak to several participants from the events and received great feedback from our team that was in attendance as well!
A close second would be the company’s uptake of the SGUnited traineeship and mid-career pathways programmes which are currently running now. I was involved in the programme uptake from end to end - starting from our interest applications, to implementation and current running and administrative tasks.
What advice do you have for prospective candidates interested to join Mavericks and
the Hiring Team?
I would say to give it a go! There will be a learning curve but there are also many opportunities for learning and growth.
