We all know that engaging in an active & healthy lifestyle is important. However, we live in a world full of temptations and it can be an uphill challenge to establish healthy lifestyle habits.
Here are some basic tips I'd like to share to help you with maintaining a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being.
Limit unhealthy food & fuel your body right
Aim to consume a balanced diet with the right mix of proteins, leafy vegetables, fruits as well as whole grains packed with fibre, minerals and vitamins.
Staying hydrated is equally important. Try to drink at least 1.5L of water daily as it helps to regulate our body temperature and flush toxins from our body.
Exercise
Try to get at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity daily. Regular exercise helps to regulate stress, relieve tension and strengthen our bones & muscles.
It also boosts our energy levels & promote better sleep at night too!
However, if you don't workout regularly, remember to start slow and gradually adjust the intensity of your workout at a pace that you're comfortable with. Avoid over exerting yourself to reduce the risk of sustaining an injury.
There are many different types of exercise to choose from, so find the one that you enjoy the most! Personally, I've always loved the fast-paced action and strategic gameplay of badminton. It's a great way to get an intense workout while having fun. I've also forged lifelong friendship with people from different walks of life.
Get enough rest
Getting high quality sleep is akin to hitting the reset button for your body. Most adults require at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night. Try to create a relaxing bedtime routine while minimizing excessive lights & noise before getting to bed. It's helpful to be consistent with bedtime routines as that helps to develop our body's internal alarm clock. Avoid mentally stimulating activities and excessive screen time & opt for calming and relaxing tasks such as reading a book or taking a warm bath an hour before bed.
When we are well-rested, we are better able to focus, concentrate and learn. We are also less likely to experience mood swings and irritability.
practice mindfulness
Consider incorporating mindfulness and meditation into your daily routine. These practices can help you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings and develop effective coping mechanisms.
Building strong social connections is equally important too! Try to spend quality time with loved ones, joining focus groups around your neighborhood, or volunteer to foster a sense of belonging and support.
Lastly, do not hesitate to seek professional help from trained professionals including therapists and counsellors if you are struggling with your mental health. They will be able to help you regain confidence and feel good again.
